Mulch de Goma (Rubber Mulch)  Fabricado a partir de neumáticos reciclados, este material no solo es ecológico, sino también altamente resistente a impactos, lo que reduce significativamente el riesgo de lesiones en los niños. PLAYGROUND SURFACING OPTIONS Rubber Mulch Rubber mulch is an exceptional playground surface that absorbs shock and reduces playground injuries. With little need for maintenance, rubber mulch dries quickly, is available in a variety of colors and works in virtually all climate conditions.


A play surface material like rubber mulch can greatly reduce playground injuries. Unlike wood mulch/chips, pea gravel, and sand, rubber mulch does not turn into a compacted or hard surface with frequent use. It won’t blow away in high winds or float away during big rain storms either, and stays in place to keep kids safe. Rubber mulch has been evaluated by groups like the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) as an appropriate loose full surfacing material for residential and commercial playgrounds because it provides superior fall protection when compared to other materials. Rubber Mulch is a permeable safety surface made from recycled tires. It is a solid surface designed to look like natural loose mulch material and is available in a range of natural colors. It is a cost effective alternatives to surfaces such as loose fill and is more durable with less maintenance required. As a playground surface, the bonded shreds of Rubber Mulch provides peace of mind by providing excellent slip resistance tested to BS7188 and also achieving a Critical Fall Height of 1.7m. When used on a single layer of 55mm and can provide as much as 3.1m CFH when tested on layers of 80mm, 120mm and 140mm


Rubber Mulch Rubber mulch, or shredded rubber, is an upgrade from Engineered Wood Fiber in the loose surfacing world. Unlike EWF, shredded rubber will not compact or decompose. It will not mold, attract animals or insects. And if it is well contained, it will not have to be replenished. You might have to add a few bags here and then for the stuff that is displaced through play, but generally, it is heavy enough that it will stay in place. Shredded rubber comes from used tires, and is a great solution to these ending up in our landfills. The tire is usually stripped of its steel mechanically and then checked for loose metal with powerful magnets. It is shredded into nuggets or slivers and then tinted with pigments. Please note that shredded rubber is not recommended for play areas that have kids two-year-old or younger, as they like to put it in their months, creating a choking hazard. You might want to consider another surface even if the area in question is close to another area that has toddlers, as the shredded rubber will tend to find a way to other areas through kid’s shoes, or simply kids throwing it around.


There are many pros and cons to the use of rubber mulch, but we would like to highlight that valid research and studies have shown that rubber mulch is in fact, not harmful to humans and the environment. Valid research presents that rubber mulch turf surfaces do not pose a harmful risk: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found that the particulate matter within rubber mulch falls under acceptable environmental tolerances.


Crumb rubber products must always meet the standards of the Synthetic Turf Council guidelines. In 2012, the University of California concluded that rubber mulch contains very little to none of exposure to toxic substances. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) conducted evaluations on rubber mulch in various athletic fields and discovered that the levels of lead in the substance do not cause a hazardous health risk. After examining the lead element found in rubber mulch, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) concluded that there is no indication that the material causes cancer risk or a health hazard. Breathing zone levels of rubber mulch were analyzed in 2008 by Milone & McBroom engineering firm and no detection of volatile organic compounds were found except for a low concentration of benzothiazole, which concludes that there is no health concern produced. These findings are just a few out of many that show that rubber mulch is not harmful to people, animals, or the environment. Artificial Turf


Synthetic playground turf is the most consistent and effective playground surface overall. The most expensive up-front, but over a period of 10+ years the benefits far outweigh the costs. Artificial Turf creates a visually appealing, low maintenance, and consistently smooth & safe surface. With lower temperatures than rubber in the summer, and less abrasion for kids to roll around on. Fall Ratings Playground turf can also achieve the high fall rating, when paired with a foam sub-base shock pad or turf pad. When using a turf surface such as combined with a 1″ shock pad, a 10′ fall height is achieved. When combined with the 2″ foam pad, a 12′ fall height is achieved.


SHOCK PADS SAFETY INFORMATION A playground surface should meet or exceed the critical fall height of the installed playground equipment. To achieve the necessary fall protection, the synthetic turf can be combined with shock pads, to reach critical fall heights of more than 3 meters. The ProPlay shock pads can be installed easily over a sand or crushed stone sub-base, or an (existing) concrete sub-base. Due to the very high (water) permeability, the surface will remain 'dry' during and after heavy rainfall. The impact attenuation aspect of synthetic turf in a playground setting is achieved though the padding installed below the turf. Pads generally come in 4’ x 6’ panels, 1” and 2” thickness depending on the critical fall height needed.
